That Is It For This Month

I am ending the blog for this month early (unless any ultimate news were to ever happen) because it will give you a chance to go over any entry you may have missed, did not read, or wish to comment upon that I posted this month.

Another reason why I am ending this month early is that I am doing a major update on one of the pages to my Napoleon Dynamite page and it is going to take up a lot of my time. For those of you readers of this blog, I am giving you a sneak peek of what I am doing. As of this moment, I have only posted pages 1 to 8 of 34 (maybe more if you read this on a later date). Plus, I am going to go through all the large pictures and make them larger in size (length x width), yet smaller in data size.

Oh, and another reason why I am ending early... My G** D*** computer is acting up again! I just finished re-installing Windows for the 5th or 6th time now... So this will also (and hopefully) give me time to observe what is going on without having to worry about posting something.

PS- (To date) This has been my favorite month of blogs;
PPS- See you next month...

Where Are the Celebrities?

(FYI -- Just so you know, I posted the pictures that were taken up at the Sundance Film Festival on my Photo's page...)

Yesterday (Friday 1/27), Tristyn and I went up to Park City to check out the Sundance Film Festival. Back in 2004, we drove down Main Street to see what was going on. Now I wanted to walk up and down Main Street, and hopefully see a celebrity.

However, either it was too cold, too early or they were inside the restaurants at the time we were up there... But we didn't see a celebrity, dammit!

So the next time I go up there to any future Sundance, I am only going to go up there if I have tickets to one of the movies or I am invited to a personal party up there (ha! good one). Oh, and if I do go, I am going to dress warmer... My hands were freezing.

Oh, and one more thing. You can see on the pictures page, but one of the shops up there had really killer moon boots! Heck yes they did!

A BIGGGGG Thank You!!!

I want to thank everyone out there for reading my blog entries and viewing all my other sites as well...

Without you, I wouldn't know what words I have misspelled, what pictures are not showing up, what pages are not being linked to the correct page, what pages look funny or are not being displaying correctly, what pages are missing or for you just offering your opinion...

The reason why I am thanking everyone for these things things above is that because JoAnna seen that I accidentally had published September's page on Octobers' page.... So while trying to retrieve October's code from my hard drive (where everything is backed up), I found out that I had also goofed and pasted September's code over Octobers code as well. Had JoAnna not told me this, and had I not retrieved the Snapshot Backup from Yahoo! within that monthly time frame they back it up for... I would have had to of crossed out or skip right over October's blog...

After I fixed the problem, I realized I can't do these webpage without all of you. So...

THANK YOU!!!

PS- I am now going to make monthly back-ups of my web pages onto CD-R's. That way, I won't have another heart attack like I did tonight.

Some More Questions to Answer

JoAnna sent me some more questions to answer, back on January 12th. I was saving them for another round of questions to post later on future blog entries, but since A) I have not posted enough in a few days (mainly because I ended up going over the 125KB file mark), and B) I don't have anything better to talk about or post... I'll post a couple of those questions and the answers today. I'll try to scatter them out over the next few days. If you have a question you want to ask me, or have a question regarding to one of the questions/answers, click on the picture of the envelope below...

Question #1... "Recite your favorite movie quote and explain why it's your favorite."

Answer #1... That would have to be from the movie Dazed and Confused...

Wooderson (played by Matthew McConaughey): "That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."

...As to why I like this quote, I don't really know for sure. I guess that every time I see a girl that looks good, but I realize that she is too young for me, I always say this quote to myself. Also, during the 4th season of Family Guy, they recreated this scene...

----

Question #2...
"What is the one phrase that just really gets under your skin when you hear it?"

Answer #2... I know that there is more, but this is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head.

"Ryan, you love me, right................?"

If you know I loved you or appreciate you as a friend, you wouldn't need to ask me this. So, for future references, anyone who tries to ask me this before asking me the favor they need, the answer will automatically be no.

Blast From the Past

For those of you who have known me since 2001 on, or don't recall what I look like with long hair...

I found this picture while trying to find other pictures to use on this site. The picture was taken by my sister Annie in LEGOLAND (Carlsbad, CA) back in 1999.

Here is another picture of me acting like C-3PO.

Lil' Freakin' Idiots!

Rachel sent me this picture to me by e-mail. I still can't stop laughing because the kid who is dressed up like Napoleon, really looks like a younger version of Napoleon.

Thanks Rachel!

... See folks! Your e-mails and comments really do help make this blog much better.

I'm Back

Is that a new record (for me)? I mean, is that a record to back up my data, reinstall Microsoft Windows and then to reinstall (quickly counted) 20+ applications/programs... Not to mention all the drivers for the hardware connected to my computer in less than 3 to 3 1/2 hours ........? I think so. (Remember, I said for me dealing with MY computer).

Just incase you were wondering... That entry I posted yesterday, I had to do it freehand (go through every line of code using notepad) on my parents computer. I am telling you thing just incase you were wondering how I was able to write it and post it since I had no internet connection.

It's Doing it Again

Just to let you know, my internet connection to my computer is acting up again. No, I did not re-install that TV tuner card, so I don't know what it is...?

Therefore, as soon as I get home from work tonight, I plan on reformatting and re-installing Windows. Please be patient if you don't see an entry for a day or two. Well, not only because of my internet, not a whole lot is going on. I do plan on going up to the Sundance Film Festival on Friday... That's about all.

It's after 3PM, so I better post this and start getting ready for work.

My Day is Bummed

I just found out that one of my all-time favorite comedians, Mitch Hedberg, passed away almost a year ago in March (29th, 2005) due to "heart failure". Why the hell didn't any body tell me?! I need to start reading Wikipedia a lot more...

I mean, I just heard him on an interview on XM Radio not to long ago. I guess that it was recorded and has been repeated a few times since then...

Well buddy, I'm sorry I never made it to one of your shows... But I am glad you did put out two albums. If anyone wants to bum them from me, feel free to ask.

"Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. 'Damn it, Otto, you're an alcoholic.' 'Damn it, Otto, you have lupus.' One of those two doesn't sound right."

So This Is What It Felt Like Before The Internet

I apologize for not posting something these past few days, but there have been a few issues I'm dealing with.

1) My blog for this month has been reaching 100 KB in size and I do not want it to reach 125KB before the months end. So, in order to prevent that from happening, I just cut back on writing and posting for a few days. I may have to do it once or twice more this month.
2) My internet connection and speed right now (just to my computer, not my parents for some reason) is about the same as dial-up... And that is if I am lucky enough to get a signal. I must have installed a program or hardware (I'm thinking it is that TV tuner card) that has made using my computer almost useless to connect.

UPDATE: After I wrote this entry and couldn't connect to my server to post it, I decided to pull the TV tuner card out of my computer to test my theory, and I was right. After restarting, I had the internet back.

Don't Think I've Forgotten

I just want to remind everyone out there that I have not forgotten about posting the videos of my sister Annie when she was on KUTV 2 News last week.

Sadly, I did not tape it (I couldn't find the stupid VCR remote to set the timer...). However, another family member did record the event, and yesterday on my day off (Tuesday 1/17) I spent almost 4+ hours trying to figure out how to upload a video from a VCR/VHS cassette tape into a computer (it's not as easy as possibly uploading video from a camcorder into a computer).

If you would like to watch the video clips, click here to check them out. (Incase you cannot remember the link, or this entry, I have posted a link on ryansharich.com)

I just found out that apparently, since she is being sponsored by KUTV, she is going to be on television every Thursday (I guess until the race). Dear lord. Okay people, listen up! Even though I am posting these as WMV's, the amount of videos that I am going to post are going to add up in downloads... So PLEASE!!! Please, save the files to your hard drive!!!!! (If I notice the total amount of bandwidth that I am allowed each month is getting really low, I'll pull the page until a new month has started...)

Cars Vs Computers

I do not know how old this e-mail actually is (circulation), but I have received it before. However, Brian sent it to me the other day and I thought I would post it today.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part):

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Thanks Skidz for the e-mail.

Hello, Apple

Yesterday (Saturday 1/14), on my day off, I finally went to visit the Apple Store at the Gateway Plaza with Tristyn. I would show you my picture of me in front of the store... But none of them turned out without having some sort of flaw in them (ie. red eye, too dark...).

Anyways, it's nothing like I expected it to be. Yet, then again, I really don't know exactly how to explain how I thought it would be. It is really nice inside, yet still, all Apple products are expensive to afford. I'm lucky I actually own an iPod. They had everything on the Apple Store website, except for the new MacBook Pro. That is the new notebook computer that is to replace the Apple Powerbooks. The MacBook Pro notebook, that is now the Apple computer that I wish to purchase sometime later this year.

If anyone is interested to check out the actual Apple Store, I suggest doing so. It really is not that bad, even if you are a dedicated PC user... You don't know how bad you will want the new Video iPod before you leave the store... I know I did.

Computers = Geeks; Harry Potter = Nerds; People Who Understand Neither = Dorks and Dumbasses

Well, after work on Friday (around 10:30pm), I headed over to Brian's house to check out the 24-hour LAN party he and his brother had been hosting since around noon. I took a few photos of the event, but since the flash was distracting some of the players while they were playing, I turned it off. So, even thought some of the original pictures turned out okay, they were pretty dark. So when I got home, I used Adobe Photoshop to lighten up the pictures so anyone could actually see what was going on in certain pictures. But in doing that, it caused them to show a bit more grainy texture (they look like they were taken with my camera phone...). Just look at the pictures and you will see what I mean...

Welcome Back, Miss Handleson

I just want to say congratulations to JoAnna... You are now a free woman. Now, enjoy the single life while you can...

For many of you who are in the dark, as of today, JoAnna's divorce is final and she is now free... and available!!! J/K... Let her enjoy her freedom.

Please Be Patient With Me

Last month, I started taking a new prescription medicine called Wellbutrin. However, since I started taking it, I have noticed some changes in my mind and body, the way it was possibly intended to do. But I have also been experiencing some other major side effects (stuff I am not going to even describe here). Now, I don't know if it is the medication, or the winter weather, or my diet.... but I need to find out what is causing it and to have it stop immediately (or things could possibly get worse).

So, I have decided to start a little test on what could be causing these problems. Starting right now (today 1/12) I have decided to stop taking the Wellbutrin. Luckily, I was on a low dosage, so the complications of getting off the medication and flushing it out of my system will not be so severe, as that compared to a higher dosage. But I'm hoping that it is the medication, and that these side effects will go away.

If you notice me being "out in space", not paying attention, or with a short temper (very rare), please understand why. Thanks.

2K+

How do you advertise your webpage...?

Have it relate to something really popular, like my Napoleon Dynamite site, and then like I did, post your link to your page on the Wikipedia page about the movie (Napoleon Dynamite).

Well, as of yesterday (1/10), I surpassed the 2000+ page view mark. I know that figure is not a lot compared to other major web pages (ie. Yahoo! Google....), but to me that is a lot! Not bad for starting the webpage on April 11, 2005 (according the the web page counter I placed on the page).

As of this date, my main pages' counter on tech-tonics.com (which has been paused until later) has only 609 hits... and that page has been up since August 2004.

Constant Changes

I want apologize to everyone, especially those who do visit this and my other sites a lot. You may have noticed changes here and there every once in a while. But, I guess I keep finding ways to make my web pages look more professional, and not so amateurish...

The reason why I am posting this is that you may have noticed the title banner on the top this page... Well, just in case you have not visited these pages in a while (or ever), I have also added title banners to my Photos and About pages... (it will be a little while before I re-do the main page to ryansharich.com again.)

If you are wondering why I decided to do the banners, is because I was watching Steve Jobs (at Macworld yesterday, 1/10) present the new software application iWeb (web creation software that makes beginners look like they have been creating web pages for years...) that comes bundled with iLife '06, and I noticed that they were placing banners atop of each page.... My eyes widened and I was like, "That's it!!! That is what my page is missing!" So, here they are...

Well, it's ... after 4AM, and I need to get to bed. But before I go, I wanted to tell you why I chose this particular picture that I am using for the blog web site...
- One, it represents "What is over the horizon for me...?" (in this case, a hill)
- Two, it was the location in Napoleon Dynamite where they filmed Uncle Rico throwing the football for the video camera... lol

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...
Here is one of those questions that was asked.

This is the last question.
"What is something that you want people to know about you so that they can understand you better?" - Tristyn

(NOTE: While trying to change the way the blog entries looks, I accidentally deleted the original answer to this question. So I am doing this out of what I remember writing... Or I am adding new ones.)

I may have done drugs... But I'm not a druggie.
I may have had to deal with the courts because of drugs... But I'm not a criminal.
I may take medications for my ADD and depression... But I'm not going to flip out on you.
I may purchase an Apple... But I'll still work with and on PC's.
I may think different... But that's what makes me stand out.
I may act like I haven't grown up yet... But please speak to me as an adult.
I may be shy... But I'll still have a conversation with you.
I may know a lot about computers... But I still don't know everything there is to know about computers.
I may have a lot of personal stuff (computer, iPod, car)... But I still don't have everything (lover/wife (family) kids, career...).
I may appear to be on the computer a lot... But I do prefer to get out and do things (Can't see the world online...).
I may have not done much with my life now... But I know I will someday.
I may have a messy room... But I'm thankful that I have a roof to cover that room.
I may appear to know a lot... But I'm always searching for more knowledge.
I may not make it as a detective... But understand that I will finally get the answer.
I may have accidentally deleted the original answers to this question... But I am human and we all make mistakes.

A big thank you to EVERYONE who submitted questions for me to answer. This has made the blog during this wintertime go by much faster without having a lot of gaps, when there was nothing to post.

If you ever have a question, or a question to one of the questions or answers that was submitted in a past entry, please e-mail them to me (please, don't ask me in person-- other people might be wondering the same question you are...). I'll do my best to answer them in a future blog entries...

Set Those Video Recording Devices

I just wanted to say congratulations to my sister Annie, who apparently has been specially selected by KUTV to participate in the Salt Lake City Marathon...

I'll give you a little run down of the e-mail that was sent to her:

"Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the KUTV, Salt Lake City Marathon. We were looking for six novice runners and you wrote in expressing interest. We enjoyed your story and how determined you are to stay healthy."

It later goes on to say:

"Also, you will be part of a group of six people who will represent the Marathon. You will be required to make [a] special KUTV appearances live on [the] air. The first appearance is this Thursday, January 12th at 5:45 am..."

So, set the recording devices for Thursday morning... If I do record it, I'll post a picture of what it looked like with her on the air... And if I am lucky, I may be able to post a small clip of her on the air. Sorry, can't post the whole thing... I don't have enough bandwidth to do that...

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...
Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"What would you name your kids?" - Shellie A.
- This one could go both ways, but mostly for a girl, Tayleur. For a boy, Bradley. ...But, until my future wife is expecting, I don't really have to worry about this right now (Thank God!)

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"Do you think they should take God out of the pledge of allegiance?" - JoAnna

- No. No I don’t. Leave it in! If anyone has a problem with it, just say “dog”. Same number of letters, no one is the wiser.

...And Found!

Back in December, I mentioned that someone had lost their beanie at my work...

Well, I have great news! Last night at work, I found it!

Okay, okay... So it may not be the same beanie that was lost. When I found the beanie in the shopping cart last night, I remember that the one the guy had lost his. I also then remembered that I had posted that on a blog entry back in December...

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"If you could buy any car you want, what would it be?" - Shellie A.

- If I had the money, I don't know what kind of car that I would buy. I'm not into cars that much anymore...

However, since I can't afford any vehicle I would like to, the one that I have been thinking about getting is a PT Cruiser. It would be mainly for business. I want the hard top version, not the convertible version.

And when the time comes, when I finally have a family, I could use the vehicle to lug the kids and computers around.

Friday, January 6, 2006

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"How well do you handle criticism?" - JoAnna

- Good question. How I handle it actually depends on the situation.

For example: If someone is running their mouth off at something else (like saying something bad about my work), I'll try not laughing at their face because I know that that person is a freakin' idiot...

If I am being criticized or humiliated for my opinion, I will get upset. However, I will not fight back in a physical manner because I do believe in Karma, and eventually it does come around to kick that person or persons in the ass.

"Your Mom Goes to College..."

Recently, I made the decision to go to back to school (SLCC) to finally get my A+ certification... But after looking into it, there were a couple of major items that made this dream not so possible (well, for now).

One, since I don't have the money to apply for school, I would have to apply for a student loan or aide. The website said it could take up to 3 months to be officially approved (and that is "IF" I am approved)...

...Registration for all classes is due on the 18th of this month. Perfect time to choose to go back now, huh?

Two, I was hoping to be certified before my birthday (June 21st) of this year (something that I promised myself a while back)...

...If I was to take day classes, it would take 7 to 8 months to complete the course (which would make that August or September).

Three, if I was to apply for the loan, and get it, that would be great.

...However, I don't know when registration for the next class would be. So it would be near the end of this year, or sometime next year if I was to go to school to get my A+.

...So, although it looks as though I will not be going back to school right now, I do plan to go back sometime in the future to get certified for other computer speculations that are required in the computer industry.

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"How many kids do you want?" - Shellie A.

- I would like to have at least two kids. I have seen the effect of having only one child (wink)… So two is the goal. If more come along, that will be fine too. But I if I have more than 6, someone please have me clipped.

For the Bored

If you haven't noticed, I have changed the way the main page to ryansharich.com looks (Yes, again!). If you did notice, good for you.

However, here is something that you may not have known........ If you hover your mouse over any picture, word(s), symbol and objects, there is always something to read (except in the blank or white areas). Well, start reading... (Note, even the ' / ' has something to read about it.)

This is how I waste my time...

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"If you could go back and change one thing in your life, what would you change and why? If not, then why not?" - Tristyn / JoAnna

- I actually have two of them...

First, the thing I would change, if I could go back, was to have actually studied more and did more in all of my schooling (junior high through high school), rather than goof off and just barely graduate.

The second thing I would change if I could go back, is that I wish I hadn't said what I said to my best friend of 16 years (back in 2001) when I was trying to come off of drugs. I said something about him, when I was mad at someone else, and I killed the coolest friendship ever. Something I have regretted ever since...

Does It Look Okay...?

The other night, I changed the background to the entire napoleonstown.com website... Tell me what you think.

Is it too much or does it look okay?

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"Would you eat a live hamster for $1,000,000. dollars???? (You know it's tempting)" - JoAnna

- No! Question is, would you? Wait… Is this something you saw on Fear Factor?

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"What inspires you?" - Tristyn

- To not fail.

I mean, look at all the crap that I have put myself through (doing drugs and dealing with the courts because of drugs), and all that I have done since quitting that lifestyle (computers, webpage's and my own side-repair business). I just want everyone who has been involved in my lifetime, and through the struggle I put everyone through to make sure that I turn out alright... I want you to know that you did not fail.

How Does it Look?

Does this new format for my blog look okay, or would you like me to go back to the way I had it before? Let me know...

So what is different then before...?

One, instead of posting the actual date atop of the blog entry for each day, it will say when I posted each blog entry below the entry.

Two, instead of that solid line to separate each entry, it is now a just a row of "." (decimals)

Three, the title of each entry is a different color from before (which was probably very obvious from when you arrived).

You Ask... I'll Answer...

On November 30, I asked you to ask me any questions you had about me, my web sites or blog...

Here is one of those questions that was asked.

"Where are you guys going on your honeymoon?" - Shellie A.

- Sorry, I’m not taking any guys with me and my future wife on our honeymoon (lol).

Since I am not getting married, or thought about getting married anytime soon, I have not thought about where I would like to go. Now that I think about it, Hawaii would be very nice, but its too dang expensive. Well, I guess that when the time comes around to start choosing a location for a honeymoon, that's when I will worry about it.

Happy New Years, Everyone!

I hope everyone had a fun time last night...? So, what are your resolutions for the New Year?

Mine? ... I have a few, but the one I will tell you is that I need to get off the computer and start exercising more. I'm not saying that I am going to stop with these blog entries. No, no, no... But all of last year, I spent most of my free time on the computer. I need to stop doing that and get out.
