Winter Break 2016

Back track here before I tell about when the girls came up...

In November, I went and got my own car. Because of a screw up and it taking so long with paperwork for the loan people, they then rejected the offer and I had to give the car back and have a cosigner to be able to get my car. I asked my mom to help and she agreed to sign. So I was able to get a brand new 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage. It's a little smaller than the one they gave me, but with me driving to and from work, it helps saves on gas since it is economy.

Then, it was my turn to have the girls up for Thanksgiving this year. But with working two jobs and both then being in retail, there was no way I could pick up the girls and to enjoy my time with them. So I had to give up my time with them this year.

Anyone who does not know, Amanda and I finally moved into our own apartment in North Salt Lake a few days after Thanksgiving. So when the girls come up to visit, this is where they will be staying with us, unless they spend the night at my parents house for sleepovers.

With it being December now, I was lucky enough to ask for time off to be with the girls, and to also be able to drive down on Christmas Day with Amanda to pick them up. So I really didn't get to enjoy either holiday this year with it being so busy working both jobs, but going down to bring the girls up to open presents and spend time with them was better than nothing at all.

December 25
On Christmas morning, Amanda and I woke up to see it has started snowing like it was predicted. We packed up my car and spent some time over at her moms house to watch Zoey open presents that morning and to have a Christmas breakfast. We then headed out after and headed over to my parents house to quickly drop presents off so we could have room in my car. We only were there for a couple minutes to say Hi, Merry Christmas and Goodbye so we could head back on the road because of the storm. On the way down, I was communicating with Rachel and she agreed to let us stop and say Merry Christmas to everyone in the family and the girls before we continued on to Mesquite for the night. So we stopped and said hello and show the girls my new car.

Well, after visiting, we were back on our way to Mesquite. This stay, I received a free room at Casablanca. We checked in, had dinner and then went gambling. We were having fun playing the slot machines in the casino. Well, I was because I won big at Casablanca. Then, since we had time, we went over the Virgin River and I lost most of it... so I came out even. With it getting later in the evening, we decide to call it a night and head to bed.

December 26
Woke up, grabbed breakfast at McDonald's and headed on our way to pick up the girls. When we arrived, we loaded up the car and with my car being smaller, we had to jam their luggage in my car any place we could find space. We did it and then headed over to pick up lunch at Hungry Howie's, then a quick stop to grab drinks at a gas station and drove until Beaver.

We exited at the first Beaver exit to go get ice cream at the Dairy Farmers of America, then to fill up with gas before heading back on the road. We made a quick stop in Nephi, before getting back on the road and arrived at my parents house.

We had dinner and then let the girls open their gifts from everyone.

With it getting late, we left their house and headed to our place so the girls could get settled and acquainted with our new place.

December 27
I still had a few days off that I requested to enjoy some time with the girls, and so today, we got ready and headed over to my parents house to pick up the sleds to go sledding.

After grabbing the sleds, we went over to the splash pad (during the summer) and went sledding on the hill next to it. Other people were there of course, but we were use to that.

After sledding and a grabbing a bite to eat, we then headed back up to Bountiful to go see the new Star Wars Rogue One movie.

December 28
On this day, my mom was supposed to come pick up the girls to let them have a sleepover at their place, but I woke up with a migraine and spent most of the day in bed. My mom came over and picked up the girls, and Amanda and I tried to go do laundry, but I could only handle so much before getting sick. Once we were done with laundry, I came back and laid down until it went away later that afternoon.

December 29
Feeling better today, we drove over and picked up the girls to take them ice skating at CHRC.

After skating and relaxing, we headed back to NSL to go to dinner at a restaurant called Smokin' Bones.

December 30
After how many days off, I had to go back to work. Amanda was kind enough to to take the girls over to her mom's house so that the girls could meet and play with Zoey.

December 31
I had to work straight from 6AM to 10PM at both jobs, so later in the afternoon, my mom came over and picked up the girls and Amanda so that I could meet them over there to ring in the New Years.

January 1
I had to work morning, but later in the evening, we took the girls bowling and had ice cream back at our place.

January 2
I had the whole day off, so we took the girls to Eaglewood Golf Course to go sledding.

Later in the evening, we played the Game of LIFE.

(Ady had too many kids so we had to use a second vehicle.)

January 3
Before I had go to work, I took the girls to go to lunch at Arctic Circle to play with Zoey.

January 4
We played Yahtzee! before my mom picked them up so that they could spend time over there with them.

January 5
On the way the way over to my parents house before I had to be to work, I hit a pothole and it damaged both of the passenger side tires and wheels. So we had to have the car towed to my old work at Big O Tire to have them look at it. Because of the extent of the damage, both tires and wheels had to be replaced and that I had to have an alignment. So I never got to see or say goodbye to my girls this day because I was now late for work.

The girls mom was on her way up here to pick them up the next day.

January 6
I had to work at Home Depot in the morning, Rachel picked them up. Due to the "storm" that was supposed to hit later, I never got to see the girls and say goodbye. The storm never came...

Fall Break 2016

Right after the girls came up for a quick two day visit in October, I totally spaced it to ask for time off for their fall break from school in the middle of October. Luckily, my mom actually drove down with my grandma to pick up and bring the girls up here. Thursday night when they arrived, I pick them up at Aunt Annie's house, because my mom had to drop something off there. I found them playing on the swing sets next-door to Annie's house.

We loaded up in my car headed to Bountiful to pick up Amanda. Stopped at a grocery store to get the girls something to eat, picked out a few groceries and pumpkins that we were going to carve later that night.

Then we drove back to Salt Lake to carve the pumpkins and to have fun doing that.

The next day before I had to go to work, I took the girls to the park to let them take Brody for a walk and have fun playing at the park. When we were walking the dog, he had to do his business, but made a mess of it on him. So we had to put a baggie over his bottom like a make shift diaper, and head back to the house to give him a bath.

After the bath, I got ready for work and had to close that night. But the girls were entertained with Grandpa Paul and Grandma Sheila.

I don't remember much about doing anything with them Saturday morning (I didn't take any pictures to help me remember), but on Sunday after I got off work at Home Depot at noon, Amanda and I packed up everyone and drove the girls back down home because they had to be the school the next day.

Not a big blog post or visit, but I love to post each one when the girls come up.

General Conference Visit

A week or two prior to the girls coming up for a short visit, the girls mom asked me if I would like to see the girls because the adults were going to General Conference. I said yes because I'm gonna take any chance I can see them that I can get. Luckily, I had that Saturday off and so I planned a few things for us to do.

On Friday night, I had to manage and close the store at Dan's. So the girls mom and stepdad drop them off at my parents house and I came home later that night to give them good night hugs and kisses.

The next morning, the girls helped grandma Sheila make breakfast.

We got ready for the day and picked up Amanda at the TRAX station, and then drove over to my work where they had the Kids Workshop going that morning.

After painting and putting together their little craft project, we drove over to Wendy's at Sugar House to grab a bite to eat for lunch. Then headed over to Gardner Village so we could check out Witchfest. After spending a couple hours there, he grabbed their cookies and headed back to the house.

I originally wanted to check out Oktoberfest as well, because it was the last weekend of Oktoberfest for the year. But the girls were tired and so we just headed back to the house to do whatever. I later decided that I wanted to update my iPhone, so Amanda and I drove over to the Apple Store at Fashion Place Mall and was about to wait in line, but the gentleman who was helping customers before they bought the iPhone told us that we had to make an appointment to be served with somebody who can help us at a later time in the evening. So we made the appointment for two hours later and headed back to the house to have dinner. The girls stayed behind and helped make dinner.
When it was time for us to go back, I asked the girls if they want to come with. They they said they didn't want to. I told him I would just like to spend some time with them. They asked if I would turn on my hotspot on my phone and I told him they have open Wi-Fi at the mall an Apple store. They couldn't get their shoes on any faster. So we all loaded up and headed to the Apple Store and waited in line until it was our turn to get my new phone. Once it was my turn, we were helped and I got my new phone.

Headed back to the house and just took it easy the rest of the night. Later that night I took Amanda home.

The next morning before I had to go to work, the girls mom and stepdad picked them up and then headed back to St. George.

Brodie's Most Excellent Adventure to Preston, Idaho

Heading out to pick up Amanda.

Grabbing snacks for us, potty break for Brodie.

Let's get back on the road!!!

Inside Big J's Burger in Richmond, Utah. The building they filmed it at/in has been torn down and this one has been built just a few feet to the south of the original.

Outside Big J's Burger waiting for our dang pizzas.

Sorry buddy, no bowling today. This is the actual bowling alley they filmed the bowling scene where Uncle Rico and Kip are discussing business plans. They had a sign up saying the building/property was for sale.

Smile pretty for the camera. (He's not doing his "duty", he was trying to eat the grass.) The exterior of the house where the family lived. The inside of the house was filmed at a different location. When we stopped, they had a sign saying it's ok to take a picture, and a (water damaged) notebook with names and where they are from. Quickly flipped through it and saw people from Washington, Arizona, and as far as Iowa have visited the house.

Preston High School. The high school was used for multiple scenes. The auditorium looks big in the movie, but is quite smaller than it looks (I've been inside back in 2005 and 2006).

Exhausted and trying to lay down, but didn't realize his bum is in the air and could lay it flat on her leg.

2016 Salt Lake Comic Con

So, a couple weeks after I dropped the girls back home for summer, they were now back in school. But the first Monday in September was Labor Day, which was a plus because that Labor Day weekend was the 2016 Salt Lake Comic Con. When I bought my ticket the first day tickets went on sale before the girls even came up for the summer, one adult ticket came with two bonus children admission wristbands. So I asked the girls if they would like to go, they said Yes with excitement, and so I was able to work it out with their mom so that we could pick up the girls to be able to bring them up to Salt Lake for their first Comic Con. It would be Amanda's first time too. I went last year.

So on Thursday the 1st, Amanda and I planned to drive down to Mesquite and stay at the Virgin River hotel. With it being the day before payday for both of us, we had just enough to get down there. So we packed up a couple sandwiches to eat on the drive down and Hamburger Helper to heat up at the gas station across the street to eat that night. This was a whole new experience. I mean, I've done this before... drive down the day before payday with little/no funds, but this was different since Amanda was with me and we wanted to have some relaxing pool and hot tub fun while down there.

So we arrived and checked in around 3 Pacific time, and immediately played the $10's I get each month on the casinos players card. I gave Amanda a couple bucks to play too. But soon, that was gone, and we headed to the room to relax since we had been driving since noontime. Since we had no money for a few hours, we walked around the hotel playing Pokémon Go!, went swimming and relaxed in the hot tub.

Well, dinner time was now here and we took the Hamburger Helper I made and walked over to the gas station to heat them up. We walked back to eat out dinner, but ate it by the water fountain instead to pass the time.

Well, with it finally passing midnight in Mesquite, we walked down to the Smith's to wait a few minutes before our money was deposited so we could get a few snacks. While there, our we now had money to get snacks and to pull a few $20's to play. Walked back to the casino and played. I made a little money, but since we had to be up to pick up the girls, we called it a night.

The next morning, we cleaned up and left for St. George. Turns out, the girls were not feeling well good, so they stayed home from school. I was planning on picking them up from school, but this made it so we could get a few hours head start.

We picked up the girls, and with it being lunch time, I took everyone to Honolulu Grill. I love that place!!! After lunch, we then headed on the road to Salt Lake and was immediately caught in traffic because a camping trailer flipped over on the freeway after the Hurricane exit. So this delayed us a good hour.

Once they cleared the trailer out of the way, traffic picked up and we had to stop at the gas station at Exit 42 to get a couple gallons to get to Cedar City. The price in Cedar was a huge difference in price. Made it to the gas station in Cedar, filled up and continued on the road. Made it to Scipio to use the restrooms and fill up at Chevron, but the place was closed for the day. So we drove over the freeway overpass to the Flying J to use the restrooms, and walked around to catch some Pokémon.

After catching a few Pokémon, we headed back on the road to Nephi to fill up and get dinner for Amanda and I at Burger King, and Wendy's for the girls... and to catch some more Pokémon.

Headed back on the road and arrived at my parents place. Unpacked and let the girls play and have fun. I later took Amanda home because we would have to be up early for Comic Con.

Saturday morning, we got up and went down to say Hi to Grandma Sheila at her work. Then headed downtown to find a spot to park, which we did near Gateway. We walked right across the street to the TRAX Planetarium Station and took TRAX to Temple Square Station, where we walked the rest to the Salt Palace.

We found Amanda at the front of the building, gave everyone their wristbands and went inside. I'm sure the girls were amazed by all the cool costumes people dressed up in. We walked in the doors on the main level and into the showroom to look around. We headed back to the area where celebrities and their signing booths are, to see if we could see anyone famous. We saw Henry Winkler and a few others. But while looking around, we would ask people if we could take pictures of them with the girls. Did this quite a bit, but slowly headed over to the food court.

Yes, we should have eaten before, but I didn't think. While waiting in line for food, whatever the girls had the day before, I was starting to feel it wearing me down. But we grabbed our lunches and ate in one of the hallways outside the main floor. Finished eating and continued looking around, while taking more photos of the girls having fun.

While there, I contacted an old schoolmate (whom I'm friends with on FB) if we could meet up with them to take a group photo since they were there dressed up as The Incredible's. They were at lunch at City Creek (which is what we should have done), but would text me when they were back. So in the meantime, we continued looking around and letting the girls having fun.

They wrote me back and we met up with her and her family at the bottom of the elevators.

Since we looked around at the north side of the hall, we then looked around at the east side of the hall where all the artists booths were at.

I know we were not at Comic Con very long, but whatever we had caught was draining us. So we called it a day, walked back to TRAX to get to my car, and headed back to our place to take a nap.

I don't remember much as to what we did that night, but i know we took it easy and had dinner that night with the family.

On Sunday, I was scheduled Sunday night. I was not happy when I requested it off and still had to work. There was another reason why I was upset, it was also Amanda's birthday on Sunday, and we couldn't all get together and celebrate.

Before I had to get ready and head to work, my mom and I took the girls up to Silver Lake to go for a hike around the lake. After the hike, we were finally able to go inside the visitors center next to the parking lot. All the times we have been up here, we never have been able to go in because of bad timing.

After work, I kissed my kiddos goodnight.

The next morning, my mom would be taking the girls back home.
